The Executive Director is responsible for meeting the needs of the Board through oversight of all administrative, operational, and financial functions for the Board. The position serves at the pleasure of the Board and reports to the Board through the Chairman.
Ellen Kirschbaum currently serves as the Board's Executive Director. She was originally appointed to the Board by Governor Janice Brewer in December, 2010 and later appointed as Chairman in October, 2014. In January, 2015, Governor Douglas Ducey appointed Ms. Kirschbaum to a second term and was confirmed by the Arizona Senate. In November, 2016, she stepped down from the Board to become its Executive Director. As executive director, her priority is to assist the members to meet the Board's mission, institute efficient administrative processes and procedures and improve Board technology with a key focus on fiscal and customer service responsibility. Ms. Kirschbaum's experience spans nearly 40 years in Arizona’s criminal justice system including nearly 20 years in the field of corrections. She is involved in a number of community activities and serves on several local boards. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arizona State University and a Masters of Public Administration from Western International University.
The Administrative Support staff provide critical support to the Board by monitoring hearings, processing packets for the Board's use in making release decisions, providing statutorily mandated notifications to victims, officials and other concerned individuals and entities, managing and maintaining individual files and the file room and completing dispositions and proclamations for decisions made by the Board.
